biography - Dr. Kevin SmithDr. Kevin Smith has lived in Western Pennsylvania all his life. He grew up on a farm outside of Smithton, PA. When he was nine years old, during his attendance at a summer church camp at Camp Pine Springs in Jennerstown, PA, he made his first commitment to Christ. He graduated from South Huntingdon High School in a class of 100 and attended Westminster College, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Physics. The year after graduation he taught high school science and chemistry in Rimersburg, PA. Next he attended graduate school in Chemistry Department at the University of Pittsburgh and earned his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry. He was a deacon and later an elder at Bellefield Presbyterian Church, which is located in the heart of Pittsburgh in Oakland. Kevin was active in Bellefield’s ministry to the Pitt students, international students and the surrounding community. There he also met and married the love of his life, Janet. Kevin and Janet have three grown children, Rachel, Sharon and Ben, and grandsons Rylan and Jude. During his graduate and post-doctoral work Kevin published over a dozen scientific journal articles. He worked for the Advanced Materials Corporation as a research and development scientist, serving as General Manager of the Hydride Division. Next, Janet and Kevin moved to Latrobe in 1990 where he taught general chemistry and physical chemistry at Seton Hill and St Vincent Colleges for one year. For the next 10 years he was the senior technical analyst at NASA’s technology transfer center at the University of Pittsburgh. Here he assisted in the technology transfer to US companies, technologies that were developed at NASA, DOD, DOE and Department of Agriculture laboratories. Dr. Smith has 4 patents and for the last 13 years, he has been involved as a technology consultant and as a business owner of technology based companies. He also served as an elder at the Latrobe Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for twenty years. For the past 35 years, he has studied the Bible and the Christian faith in parallel with his scientific studies, and has discovered how compellingly scientific and historical evidence supports and provides proof that there is a God. His research also explores findings on the historical and archeological reliability of the Bible and its unique features that compel readers to consider its revelation on the truth of who God is. He is excited to share with you all just a small glimpse of this evidence in the hope that it will be a blessing to you and will encourage you in your own relationship with God. |
